dual or single truck for fifth wheel towing

Preparing for Full-time RV Living: Do We Need a Dual or Single Rear Wheel Truck?

After touring the Class A RV last week, we knew that a fifth-wheel is definitely the rig for us. But, we still have not decided which fifth-wheel it will be. Since we know our choice will be a fifth wheel that is 40 feet long or more, we started to research our towing vehicle. Would we need a single rear wheel truck or a dual rear wheel truck? Would we prefer a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge truck.

After quite a bit of in-depth research, learning the GVW of the rig, the trucks’ towing capacity, and relying upon Rich’s previous experience towing a horse trailer, we felt well equipped with enough information to make a decision.

Our decision is one that will work for us and we are not advocating that our decision is right for everyone. Before you make the decision, you have to take into consideration many factors such as the size of your rig, how much weight you will be towing, where you will be RVing, and so much more. After answering these questions and doing your own research, you will have all that you need to make a decision.
